By Paula RodriguezApril 20264 min read

A song can be finished creatively and still be unprepared operationally. Use these twelve checks before making the date public.

    Checklist

    1. The master is approved by the actual decision-maker.
    2. Clean, instrumental, performance or alternate versions are identified.
    3. Artist and release names are final and spelled consistently.
    4. Writers, performers, producers and engineers are documented.
    5. Composition and sound-recording questions have been addressed.
    6. Samples, artwork, photography and video are appropriately authorized.
    7. Metadata is complete and matches the project.
    8. Distribution is scheduled with adequate lead time.
    9. Artist profiles are claimed and current.
    10. Artwork and content exist in required formats.
    11. The audience has a clear release destination and next action.
    12. Post-release content and review are planned.

If three or more answers are “not yet”

The date may be ahead of the project. Delay is often less damaging than a preventable credit, asset or identity correction after launch.
